In a year of cuts, the Texas Legislature boosted financial aid for college students

The austere state budget currently awaiting Republican Gov. Greg Abbott‘s signature includes a 10 percent funding hike for Texas’ main method of helping needy students attend four-year colleges. That means the share of students who qualify for the state’s top college financial aid program but don’t get it due to a lack of funding will be cut in half.
